JONAH (Short Film)

Creative direction and visual identity for an art-house short film

For Jonah, a modern, art-house retelling of the biblical narrative, I was brought on for creative direction to help shape the film’s visual language and promotional presence. The goal was to honor the gravity and symbolism of the source material while presenting it through a contemporary, cinematic lens. McMaster Design developed the title logo, led promotional photography, and shot and edited the teaser trailer to establish tone and intrigue ahead of release. We also designed the film’s poster, which required extensive compositing and visual storytelling—depicting the lead character being dragged forward by the unseen hand of Yahweh. This imagery became a visual metaphor for resistance, surrender, and divine inevitability. Every element was crafted to feel restrained, intentional, and emotionally charged, helping position Jonah not just as a short film, but as a thoughtful reinterpretation meant to provoke reflection and conversation.
